City FactsNice is a city in southern France on the Mediterranean coast. The city is nicknamed Nice la Belle (Nissa la Bella in Niçard), which means Nice the Beautiful. It is the capital of the French Riviera (Côte d'Azur), the 5th largest city of France with a population of 348,721 in 2007 and the four-largest urban area after those of Paris, Lyon and Marseille with a population of 955,000. First popularized by English aristocrats in the eighteenth century, Nice reached its zenith in the belle époque of the late nineteenth century, an era that left the city with several extraordinary architectural flights of fancy. Nice has all the advantages of a major city: superb culture, wonderful street life and excellent shopping, eating and drinking, all set against a backdrop of blue skies, sparkling sea and sub-tropical greenery kept lush by sprinklers. AirportsNCE - Nice International Airport Nice Côte d'Azur Airport is southwest of Nice, in the Alpes-Maritimes department of France. The airport is positioned 7 km (4 mi) west of the city centre, and is the principal port of arrival for passengers to the Côte d'Azur. It is the third busiest airport in France after Charles de Gaulle International Airport and Orly Airport, both in Paris. It is on the Promenade des Anglais, near l'Arénas and has two terminals. Ground TransportationTaxis from the airport to the hotel cost approximately 60-70 €. There is no regular shuttle service provided, however it can be organised upon request. Unfortunately, a courtesy airport coach service is not available. The train station in Juan-les-Pins is just 0.2 kilometres from the hotel and the A8 motorway is within four kilometres. Transportation by taxi is available from the front of the hotel, and undercover parking, beneath the hotel, costs about 25 € per day. Conference HotelThe symposium hotel, Le Garden Beach Hotel, is ideally located between Nice and Cannes, and offers one of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the French Riviera, in the heart of Juan-les-Pins. Restaurants, bars, fitness centre with indoor pool, terrace and meeting rooms overlook the sea. With easy access to a range of water sports and a casino, the hotel is a unique site on the French Riviera. Le Garden Beach Hotel, Juan Les Pins, was also the first hotel on the French Riviera to be fully equipped for Wireless Broadband Internet, which will be complementary with your symposium registration. AccommodationsEach symposium delegate is responsible for making their own hotel reservations. All credit card information must be provided to confirm reservations.
